Kathmandu, August 21: Private school organizations including PABSON, NPABSON, HISAN, and APAN have demonstrated in Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu against the School Education Bill. They have demonstrated with 5-point demands as preparations are underway to finalize a bill in Parliament.
They demonstrated carrying placards such as 'No need for non-profits, companies cannot be destroyed', 'Full scholarships cannot be imposed', and 'Contribution of private schools, building a strong economy'. The main demands include removing the provision that makes registered schools non-profit institutions under the Companies Act, removing the obligation to provide uniforms, stationery, educational materials, and lunches with full scholarships, and delegating the authority to award scholarships to schools from the local level.
They have warned of launching a decisive protest from 8 Bhadra (August 24) if their demands are not addressed. Efforts are being made to resolve the controversial issues of the bill in the meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee.
