Kathmandu, Aug 21: The Federal Democratic Front has accused opponents of twisting facts and running smear campaigns over the Gaur incident, calling it politically motivated and biased.

A statement issued after the Front’s meeting on Wednesday said the handling of the case exposed a clear mindset of political revenge. “The incident is being portrayed in a one-sided and prejudiced manner, with facts distorted and character assassination campaigns being run,” the statement read.

The Front drew attention to the Supreme Court’s recent mandamus order on August 18 regarding the investigation of the March 21, 2007 Gaur clash that erupted after political disputes and led to violence. The statement noted that while the full text of the order has yet to be received, there would be no objection if the investigation is conducted with neutrality, lawful process, and inclusion of all concerned parties.

It stressed that the Front supports impartial and fact-based investigation but warned that any action taken with prejudice, political vendetta, or discriminatory intent would be strongly resisted.

On the by-election in Rupandehi-3, the Front reaffirmed its earlier decision and entrusted Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, with responsibility to decide on the party’s candidate.
