Kathmandu, Aug 17: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with President Ram Chandra Paudel today. Having arrived in Kathmandu earlier for a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Misri proceeded to meet the President.
During the meeting, President Paudel highlighted that Nepal has benefited from India’s progress and aims to gain even more advantages as a friendly and close neighbor. “We are pleased and encouraged by India’s social, economic, and technological progress as an emerging international power. As a friend and close neighbor, Nepal has benefited from India’s developments and seeks to benefit further,” President Paudel said, according to his press advisor Kiran Pokharel.
He also emphasized the century-old close ties between Nepal and India across social, cultural, religious, spiritual, economic, and people-to-people dimensions, noting that the bilateral relationship rests on equality, friendly cooperation, mutual respect, and trust. “Nepal has always placed its relationship with India as a top priority, and we appreciate India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy, which values relations with its neighbors,” President Paudel added.
Foreign Secretary Misri reportedly stated that, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of prioritizing neighboring countries, Nepal holds a place of high importance. Misri also expressed confidence that his visit would provide an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance connectivity for mutual progress and development and further deepen ties between the two nations.
Invited by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Misri arrived in Kathmandu for a two-day visit. He is scheduled to return to India on Monday after visiting Pashupatinath and completing all key meetings today. His visit also aims to prepare for Prime Minister Oli’s upcoming engagements on Bhadra 31.
