Kathmandu, Aug 17: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is arriving in Nepal today to extend a formal invitation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for an official visit to India.

He will land in Kathmandu at 1 pm on an Indian Air Force aircraft and meet his counterpart, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. After that, he is scheduled to hold meetings with Prime Minister Oli, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana, and other senior political leaders.
During his meeting with the Prime Minister, Misri will hand over an official invitation on behalf of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Oli is preparing to visit India on September 16.
During Misri’s trip, the two foreign secretaries will hold talks on various aspects of Nepal–India partnership. According to a press release issued by Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, the discussions will cover connectivity, development cooperation, and other matters of mutual interest.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs also issued a statement describing India–Nepal relations as strong and friendly, adding that India attaches high priority to its ties with Nepal.
This will be Oli’s first visit to India after 14 months in office. The bilateral talks in Kathmandu with Foreign Secretary Misri will also prepare the agenda for the visit. This time, a formal meeting between Modi and Oli is being planned in Bodh Gaya, a place believed to be where Buddha attained enlightenment.
