Kavre, Aug 16: Traffic on the BP Highway has been halted for an additional 15 days starting from Bhadra 1 (August 16). Due to safety risks, nighttime traffic had been restricted since Ashad 7 (June 21), and until Bhadra 15 (August 30), traffic was limited to 12 hours a day, the District Administration Office of Kavrepalanchok reported.

The District Security Committee, in a meeting held on Friday, decided to ban passenger and private vehicles on the highway from 5 pm to 5 am.

The office stated that the restriction applies along the stretch from Kavre Bhanjyang in the district to the Nepalthok area at the Sindhuli border for an additional 15 days.

The office also noted that, considering the active monsoon and the potential risk of floods and landslides on the BP Highway, the restriction is intended to reduce hazards, and the public is urged to exercise caution.

Last year, floods and landslides washed away eight kilometers of the road from Chaukidanda in Kavrepalanchok to Barsekhola in Sindhuli. Temporary roads were set up to allow one-way or two-way traffic at certain points.

Of the highway’s total 160 km, the third section from Khurkot in Sindhuli to Nepalthok (34 km) and the fourth section from Nepalthok to Dhulikhel in Kavrepalanchok (50 km), totaling 84 km, suffered the most damage due to floods and landslides.
