Kathmandu, Aug 15: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said Nepal has fallen behind because it failed to keep pace with other countries. He noted that despite being rich in natural resources, the country lagged in progress as it did not focus on innovation.
Addressing the “40 Under 40” list announcement and award ceremony organised by Onlinekhabar at Hotel Aloft in Thamel on Monday, PM Oli stressed the need to build national confidence by uniting the confidence of individuals.
“This country is full of natural resources. We are the descendants of ancestors who were innovators. This is the same land where the first knowledge emerged. If we, the descendants of such ancestors, have fallen behind, it is because we abandoned our innovative character. We did not move ahead with confidence,” he said.
Highlighting that every person has different abilities, Oli urged young people to pursue the fields they are passionate about with self-belief.
“You have talent. But having talent does not mean you can excel in everything. One becomes capable in a specific field, and when this happens across sectors, the entire nation becomes capable. Agriculture moves forward, industries move forward, trade moves forward, science moves forward, and all sectors progress,” he said, addressing those on the list and the participants.
Citing examples of the young achievers featured in the “40 Under 40” list, Oli said that success comes with confidence and active effort.
“We should not be discouraged, nor should we spread discouragement. Do not let yourself feel hopeless. If you increase your activeness with confidence, what else will happen but success? Success will come. These forty individuals honoured here, if you ask how they succeeded, it is because they had confidence and chose the right path in their field,” he said.
