Kathmandu, August 15: Nepali farmers suffer from different problems. One of the major problems is the scarcity of fertilizer during the plantation season in the country.
The government is authorised to import fertilizer, but never imports fertilizer on time, blaming other government authorities.
Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli was found saying that there is enough stock of fertilizer and there will be no scarcity of fertilizer for the farmers. Meanwhile, Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari said that there is a demand of 1.3 million metric tons of fertilizer, but the government is importing only six hundred thousand metric tons of fertilizer. Therefore, there is a scarcity of fertilizer.
He also blamed the procurement act, which has become a hurdle in importing fertilizer.
The Finance Ministry says that it had allotted the necessary amount for fertilizer import, but the Agriculture and Livestock Development Ministry says there is not enough fund for fertilizer import.
The main reason is that the government’s general sector expenditure has increased but the revenue has not increased, and the government lacks funds to support farmers.
