Al Jazeera’s popular journalist Anas al-Sharif

Kathmandu, Aug 11: Al Jazeera has reported that four journalists were killed in an Israeli strike near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

They were killed when the area, specifically a tent set up for journalists at the hospital’s main gate, was targeted. According to Al Jazeera, the victims include reporter Anas al-Sharif, Mohammad Kreikeh, and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammad Noufal.

Two weeks ago, Al Jazeera had condemned what it described as an incitement campaign by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) against its journalists in Gaza, particularly al-Sharif.

Immediately after the strike, the IDF confirmed via a Telegram post that Anas al-Sharif had been targeted, claiming he was a leader of the Hamas militant group, BBC reported.

The IDF made no mention of the other journalists killed. Al-Sharif, 28, was reportedly posting on social media platform X moments before his death, stating that there was intense Israeli bombardment inside Gaza City.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, 186 journalists have been confirmed killed in Gaza since Israel’s military operations began in October 2023. BBC.
