
KATHMANDU, August 7: Four Nepali workers from Dhading’s Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality, who had gone to India’s Uttarakhand for work, have gone out of contact following the recent flood and landslide in the region.
According to Dhading’s Chief District Officer Suman Ghimire, the missing individuals are Lal Bahadur Tamang, Chholama Tamang, Phelama Tamang, and Singh Bahadur Tamang, all from Ward 2, Kafalpani. He said the District Administration Office has requested the Indian Embassy for assistance through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Ghimire said the families of the missing individuals informed local authorities after they were unable to contact their relatives in Uttarakhand. “After receiving the information, we wrote to the ministry, which then informed the embassy,” he told Onlinekhabar.
The flood and landslide occurred on July 4 (Shrawan 20) in Dharali village of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand, causing heavy loss of life and property. Rescue and search operations are still ongoing in the area.
Earlier reports from local representatives stated that 13 people from Jajarkot, 4 from Bardiya, and 1 from Jumla had also gone missing due to the same disaster. With the addition of the four from Dhading, the number of missing Nepalis has reached 22.
According to Hari Chandra Basnet, chair of Kushe Rural Municipality in Jajarkot, 13 people from his area are out of contact. They include Karn Bahadur Singh, Ram Bahadur Singh, Nim Singh, Rabi Singh from Ward 2, Talegaon, and seven others whose identities have not yet been confirmed.
Similarly, Bardiya Chief District Officer Surendra Paudel confirmed that Narendra Khadka, Saraswati Khadka, Amrita Pariyar, and Subash BK from Madhuwan have been reported missing in the disaster.
Local representatives from Jumla said that Janak Bahadur Shahi of Tila Rural Municipality is also missing after being caught in a landslide.
Local governments have urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to step up search and rescue efforts, saying they have received reports of Nepalis being affected by the disaster.
