Hetauda, August 4: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama has resigned from his post. Lama, who was sworn in as Chief Minister on July 24, 2024 (9 Shrawan 2081), stepped down on Sunday after leading the provincial government for one year and nine days.
A member of the Nepali Congress and the first Chief Minister from the Tamang community in Bagmati, Lama said he resigned on the directive of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Provincial Good Governance Hall within the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers at 6 PM, Lama presented a summary of the accomplishments during his tenure. He claimed he worked with sincerity but was forced to leave office due to conspiracies within his own party.
“I have nothing to regret despite being defeated in the battle for honesty; in fact, I feel content,” Lama stated, adding, “I did not commit any wrongdoing, nor was I involved in any dishonesty. There was no news of corruption under my leadership. I could not act on the signals of power centers and vested interest groups — is that my fault?”
Lama further alleged that this episode signals a threat to democracy and republicanism, stressing that he would not run away from this political moment. He maintained that he had passed the test of honesty, truthfulness, and transparency throughout his time in office.
