Biratnagar, Aug 3: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the people have not experienced good governance because the government has failed to be transparent, accountable, and responsible.

Addressing an event organized by Guras Library in Biratnagar on Sunday to honor Muktiprasad Yadunath Chapagain, Dr. Koirala remarked that even the current coalition government, formed by the two major parties, has not been able to uphold transparency, accountability, and responsibility toward the people, which has led to a lack of good governance.

He expressed concern that the executive, legislature, and judiciary are not functioning properly, putting democracy itself at risk. Koirala noted that there might soon be a need for another political movement to safeguard democracy.

He also pointed out that Nepal’s electoral system often forces the formation of coalition governments, but emphasized that even under such compulsions, political parties must not compromise on their principles and conduct.

During the event, Hariprasad Sapkota was honored for his contribution to politics with a cash prize of NPR 21,000, while Alim Ansari was recognized for his social work with a cash prize of NPR 11,000.

Similarly, Dr. Pramila Gachchhedar was awarded a certificate of appreciation for her talents, presented by Dr. Koirala himself.
