
Kathmandu, August 2: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli attended a reception hosted by Chinese Ambassador Chen Song on Friday evening to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Oli emphasized Nepal’s deep appreciation for its enduring friendship with China.
“Nepal shares a relationship with China rooted in shared civilization and cultural affinity,” he said. “We firmly adhere to the One China Principle. In return, China has consistently respected Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence. We highly value this time-tested friendship—with China as both a close neighbour and a reliable development partner.”
He added that the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence have long guided the bilateral relationship. “In both moments of joy and times of difficulty, we have stood by each other. Our bond is reinforced by historical connections, cultural closeness, mutual respect, and strong people-to-people ties,” PM Oli noted.
Chinese Ambassador Chen Song also addressed the gathering, expressing joy over the milestone anniversary and lauding Nepal’s constructive role in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including former prime ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, and Jhala Nath Khanal. Other high-level dignitaries present included ministers, heads and members of constitutional bodies, senior government officials, foreign diplomats based in Kathmandu, business leaders, senior journalists, and scholars.
