Kathmandu, July 20: The politburo meeting of the UML has passed a proposal to remove the 70-year age limit and two-term provision in the statute. The proposal paves the way for KP Sharma Oli to become the Prime Minister for the third time and also become the party chairman for the next term.
Rajendra Gautam, head of the Publicity Department, informed that the proposal regarding the statute amendment presented by Vice Chairman Bishnu Poudel was passed in the meeting.
According to him, the proposal in the amendment will have to be passed by two-thirds membership in the party, including organized and ordinary members. The meeting has proposed the district committee to be the executive committee.
He said that the issue of former President Bidya Devi Bhandari being active in the party is still undecided. In the discussion on that issue, Gautam said that most of the members were of the opinion that it was wrong, but then the decision would be taken by another committee.
Gautam said that the necessary decision should be taken regarding the renewal of Bhandari’s party membership.
He said, “Discussions were held from different angles but no conclusion has been reached.”

“There is a serious discussion about whether the person who resigned voluntarily will come back to the party or the person who left the party will come back.” The party will take necessary decisions at the appropriate time, he said.

On the issue of Bhandhari’s comeback, the party central leadership has been divided.
