
Kathmandu, July 20: Budhiraj Bajracharya, former minister and then head of Lalitpur Municipality, has passed away.
According to Lalitpur Municipal Corporation Chief Chiribabu Maharjan, he died at the age of 89 at Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj on Saturday morning.
The body of late Bajracharya is now kept at Maharajgunj Hospital. Metropolitan Chief Maharjan said that the funeral will be held on Sunday after his younger son returns from abroad.
Bajracharya, who was appointed Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation during the direct rule of King Gyanendra in 2061 BS, became the city chief of Lalitpur in 2060 BS.
He served as the chairman of the then Lalitpur Panchayat in 2027 BS and as the head of Lalitpur for the first time in 2032 BS. After introducing the multiparty democracy in 2046 BS (1990), he became the head of the Lalitpur Municipality in 2054 BS.
Bajracharya, who became involved in politics while making a mark in the business sector, served as the vice-president of Lalitpur Industry and Commerce Association from 2036 to 2037, acting president of the association in 2038 and president from 2039 to 2040.
