
Kathmandu, July 8: A flood coming from the Chinese side has swept away the Nepal-China Friendship Bridge located in Rasuwa. The bridge over the Bhotekoshi River was washed away by a flash flood that occurred at around 3 AM.
According to Dhruva Prasad Adhikari, Assistant Chief District Officer, the flood also damaged the customs (dry port) area. He said that electric vehicles (EVs) kept there for customs clearance were also carried away by the flood.
Some people have been rescued. The flood also inflicted damage on the structures of the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project.
The District Administration Office has urged residents in the lower coastal areas to remain alert, warning of the sudden flood.
Meanwhile, Flooding in the Bhotekoshi River has also caused damage to the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project. Both the dam and the workers’ camp have been affected.
According to Tiknath Paudel, the administrative chief of the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, employees fled to the nearby forest after the camp was swept away.
“We estimate significant damage to the hydropower project. Even our vehicles were washed away,” he said. “Our team members are currently sheltering in a forest area known as Audit Too.”
