Kathmandu, July 5: Foreigners coming to Nepal via India are allowed to carry the equivalent of five thousand US dollars.
Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has informed that arrangements have been made for people coming to Nepal from India to bring only the equivalent of five thousand US dollars.
At the Finance Committee meeting of the House of Representatives held at Singha Durbar on Friday, Poudel informed that arrangements have been made to allow carrying foreign currency equivalent to five thousand US dollars from India without declaring it at customs. However, he said that if you want to bring more money, you can declare it at customs and bring up to 600,000 Indian rupees. Poudel also informed that for the convenience of tourists visiting Nepal, arrangements have been made to accept payments through QR and cards up to a certain limit.
Finance Minister Poudel said that the Indian five-hundred rupee notes were not accepted because India will not take back the five-hundred rupee notes brought into Nepal.
He claimed that since the proposal to legalize black money accumulated by individuals by paying taxes is very serious, even such a discussion could put Nepal in further trouble in getting out of the gray list.
