Kathmandu, July 5: The Ministry of Health and Population has informed a concerning uptick in both COVID-19 and dengue infections throughout Nepal, according to its latest update covering the period from January 1 to July 3, 2025.
Data from the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) show that the country has recorded 249 confirmed COVID-19 cases this year, with 35 new cases emerging in the last seven days and three more within the past 36 hours. Infections have been identified in 31 districts, and one COVID-related death has been confirmed so far.
A weekly analysis of COVID-19 cases points to a steady increase, with a notable surge in recent weeks. The highest spike occurred in Epidemiological Week 26 with 59 new cases, followed by 29 cases in Week 25, indicating a possible trend toward a broader outbreak.
Regionally, Bagmati Province has reported the highest number of new infections over the past week (26), bringing its total count to 92 cases. Other provinces reporting new cases include Koshi, Madhesh, Gandaki, and Lumbini. No recent cases were documented in Karnali and Sudurpaschim.
Dengue infections are also climbing, with 1,677 cumulative cases recorded nationwide. In the past week alone, 63 new cases were reported, along with two in the last 36 hours. Although no fatalities have been reported, the virus has now spread to 73 districts, sparking concerns of widespread transmission. Health officials are closely tracking the evolving situation and have appealed to the public to follow preventive health measures—such as maintaining personal and environmental hygiene, eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, and seeking timely medical help if symptoms appear.
