This year, 61.81 per cent of the students passed the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) of the academic year 2024/25. This is the record high pass percentage in SEE and even SLC.
According to the results made public on Friday, out of 438,896 students who appeared for the regular SEE this year, 48,177 students scored a GPA between 3.6 and 4.0; 81,355 students scored between 3.2 and 3.6; 99,124 students obtained between 2.8 and 3.2 GPAs, 48,479 students achieved GPAs between 2.4 and 2.8; 4,126 students scored between 2.0 and 2.4 and only eight students received GPAs between 1.6 and 2.0.
The board has also announced that the exams of 126 students were cancelled due to various reasons, including rule violations.
Making the results public, Chairman of the National Education Board (NEB) Dr. Mahashram Sharma credited the improved outcomes to better preparation, increased access to learning resources, and more effective teaching strategies across schools.
Only 47 .86 per cent of students passed the SEE in the previous academic year. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had criticised the teachers' movement of April stating that those who failed 52 per cent students were staging protests. His comments drew criticism from teachers then.
According to the SEE results, the largest number of students have failed in Mathematics.
As per the results released by the Board, 128,215 students received a non-graded (NG) status in Mathematics, the highest proportion among all subjects.
Similarly, 80,672 students failed in English, 79,271 in Science and Technology, 54,735 in Nepali, 53,186 in Social Studies, 42,150 in Economics, and 18,222 in Optional Mathematics.
The Board said that of those who appeared in the exam, 167,597 students (38.19 per cent) received an NG (Non-Graded) result. The supplementary exam for these NG students has been scheduled for August 14.
After the results were made public PM Oli greeted the students but argued that the results improved because of his government's hard work.
