Madrid, June 3: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged Spanish entrepreneurs and businesspeople to expand their investments in Nepal.
Addressing a discussion program titled “Interaction with Nepal-Spain Entrepreneurs and Investors” organized on Wednesday by the Nepali Embassy in Spain and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Prime Minister Oli said that Nepal is moving forward with the national aspiration of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali,” and is therefore encouraging foreign investors to participate in this journey.
He remarked that the discussion had energized efforts to expand meaningful business partnerships between the two countries. Citing Nepal as home to Mount Everest—the world’s highest peak—and a country rich in peace and cultural heritage, Oli emphasized that it presents a favorable opportunity for investment.
"The private sector is the engine of economic growth. The current government is committed to increasing investment and fostering innovation. As the chairperson of the Investment Board Nepal, I assure you that the government will do everything necessary to ensure the safety and facilitation of investors," he said. "There is vast potential for investment in Nepal’s tourism, agriculture, information technology, and infrastructure sectors. Therefore, I warmly welcome investors to explore these areas. I invite entrepreneurs here to visit Nepal for feasibility studies. I see you not just as investors but as partners in development.”
At the program, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), highlighted the strong investment prospects in tourism, agriculture, information technology, and other sectors in Nepal. He stated that the government has ensured a conducive environment through legal and other facilitative measures.
Representatives from Spanish government bodies and business institutions expressed their readiness to further enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries.
Present at the event were Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal; Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav; Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Kumar Rai; Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Ghanshyam Upadhyay; Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Raj Kumar Shrestha; Secretary at the Ministry of Water Supply Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya; and Nepali Ambassador to Spain Shanil Nepal, among others.
