Kathmandu, June 3: A newly constructed permanent bridge over the Binayi Khola in Dumkibas along the East-West Highway has come into operation. According to the Road Division Office in Bharatpur, the new bridge was opened for vehicular movement starting today.
Earlier, the bridge had sustained damage due to excessive load, forcing authorities to halt traffic. Following the damage, the Bharatpur Road Division had constructed a temporary diversion to facilitate transportation.
However, the diversion was washed away by floods on nine separate occasions during the rainy season.
“Until the new bridge was completed, the division had issued public notices urging people to use alternative routes for safe travel,” the office stated. “Starting Thursday, traffic will resume over the newly constructed bridge.”
Just last week, the Binayi Khola had swept away a passenger bus as well.
