
KATHMANDU, June 25: Two Nepali nationals have been rescued from conflict-ridden Iran with the assistance of the Indian government.
According to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, Ganesh Prasad Pokharel and Suman Gaire were evacuated from Iran alongside Indian citizens and brought safely to New Delhi on Tuesday.The Embassy further confirmed that both individuals are now on their way to Butwal.
The rescue operation followed a formal request made by Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, who recently urged India to help evacuate Nepali citizens caught in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. The Indian government responded positively and extended support.
As per the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 16 Nepalis were residing in Iran, but with this rescue, 14 still remain in the country. Among them, five are reportedly in detention due to immigration-related issues. The Ministry said it is actively working to ensure their release and safe repatriation.
