Kathmandu, May 26: Chief whip of the Nepali Congress, Shyam Kumar Ghimire, has objected to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's statement that the UML will take control of Kathmandu Valley on May 29.

Addressing a symposium for ward chairpersons organized by the CPN-UML Bagmati Province Committee in Godawari on Saturday, PM Oli directed to bring Kathmandu under UML's control on May 29.

On Monday, after a meeting of party officials held at the residence of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha, journalists inquired whether the Prime Minister could say so, in response, the Whip said, "He was trying to say something in the context of celebrating Republic Day. He said nothing should be seen except the UML. It would have been fine if he hadn't mentioned UML".

"If he had said that no one except the Nepali people and supporters of the republic should be seen, it would have been better. He used the word UML while speaking a bit. It would have been better if he had said the republican Nepali people instead of that word."

During the meeting of the NC officials, NC’s general secretary Gagan Thapa said that Oli’s remarks were objectionable and such things should not be repeated in future.
