Kathmandu, May 23: Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Nepal Samajwadi Party, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, has been evicted from a public event.

He was forced to leave the program after conflict victims objected to his statement about the human toll of the armed rebellion.

In a discussion on the impact of transitional justice on human rights and democracy organized by the Nepal Human Rights Organization in Kathmandu, Dr Bhattarai opined that the then state and the rebel side should take equal responsibility for the damage done in the armed rebellion and take the peace process to a conclusion.

When Bhattarai opined that just 17 thousand people were killed during the conflict, whereas, in the globe, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in such conflicts, a conflict victim objected and accused Bhattarai a murderer of innocent people. When the participants objected to Bhattarai’s remarks, he was humiliated and forced to quit the venue.
