
Kathmandu, May 20. Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai has said that the deep friendly relations between Nepal and China, which have existed for centuries, have recently been deepening even at the people-to-people level.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the seminar on 'Review of Nepal-China Relations and Prospects' organized by the Policy Research Institute here on Tuesday, he made it clear that China is a trustworthy and reliable neighbor and friend of Nepal. He said, "Nepal and China are close friends with economic, social, cultural and traditional ties." "We must understand each other's concerns and sensitivities. Nepal is committed to the One China policy. Nepal has a clear policy of not allowing Nepali territory to be used against its neighbors."
Recalling that Nepal and China have been respecting each other's aspirations, he expressed gratitude for China's policy towards Nepal's sovereignty, geographical integrity, and political independence. Secretary Rai said, "We the Nepali people are grateful for China's support. For Nepal, China is not only the largest economic partner but also the second largest trading partner."
Secretary Rai said that relations between the two countries are expanding to a multidimensional level through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) promoted by President Xi Jinping for the prosperity of friendly countries. He expressed confidence that the projects advanced through the BRI would play an important role in Nepal's economic development and transformation.
Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, said that the diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, which have existed for the past 70 years, have reached the people-to-people level and have been addressing the concerns of both countries.
He said, "High-level exchange of visits at different times have contributed to the deepening of relations between the two countries, the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal in 2019 and the recent visit of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to China have further elevated the mutual relations."
This is a historic seminar organized by the government think tanks of both countries celebrating the 70 years of Nepal-China diplomatic relations. The seminar, initiated by the National Institute of International Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (NIS), is expected to lay the foundation for formal cooperation between the two nations.
