
Kathmandu, May 20: Bangladesh’s delegation led by Sharmeen S. Murshid represented the Sagarmatha Sambad held in Kathmandu.
Murshid delivered a statement at the Sagarmatha Sambaad and held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Nepal.
Murshid, delivering her address at the Sambad said, “We are one ecosystem, from summit to sea, what happens to the mountain, happens to the village, happens to the city, happens to us all” said Ms. Sharmeen S. Murshid, Adviser for Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, at the plenary session of first edition of the permanent dialogue forum – “Sagarmatha Sambad”.
In her statement, Murshid emphasized the fact that all nations are connected under one ecosystem and highlighted the importance of working together. She called for joint monitoring, early warnings that cross borders, shared water governance, shared science and shared courage. The Adviser also reiterated Bangladesh’s unwavering commitment to combating the consequences of climate change.
During her meeting with PM Oli at the Prime Minister’s residence, they discussed cooperation between Bangladesh and Nepal on different issues. Both leaders emphasized the need for collaboration in addressing global challenges, including climate change's consequences. PM Oli praised the work of the interim government of Bangladesh under the leadership of Professor Muhammad Yunus. Adviser Murshid lauded the leadership of PM Oli and highlighted the achievements of Nepal on women empowerment. She also extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh.
On the side-line of the “Sagarmatha Sambaad”, Murshid held bilateral meetings with the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Lords Minister) of the United Kingdom, Baroness Susan Hayman and Assistant Foreign Minister for Energy and Sustainability Affairs of United Arab Emirates, Abdulla Balalaa.
Murshid led the Bangladesh delegation at the first edition of the permanent dialogue forum – “Sagarmatha Sambad” in Kathmandu.
