Kathmandu, May 19: With favorable weather conditions, 135 climbers successfully reached the summit of Mount Sagarmatha (Everest) in a single day. The Department of Tourism has reported that a large number of climbers have reached the Sagarmatha summit in a single day during the ongoing spring climbing season.

According to the temporary field office of the department at the base camp of Mount Sagarmatha, many climbers ascended Mount Sagarmatha on Sunday due to favorable weather conditions. It has been reported that many climbers are also planning to reach the summit of Mount Sagarmatha on Monday.

The director of the department, Himal Gautam, said, "A large number of climbers have ascended Mount Sagarmatha. Although the initial days of the Sagarmatha ascent were obstructed, the highest number of ascents have occurred for the past three days."

Director Gautam informed that more than 200 people have climbed Mount Sagarmatha so far, and many climbers are planning to reach the summit on Monday, as well.

Record-breaking climber and photojournalist Purnima Shrestha has summited Mount Everest for the fifth time. Shrestha reached the summit Sunday morning, according to Satori Adventure Pvt. Ltd. Shrestha set a world record last year by climbing Everest three times in a single season.

Shrestha from Aru Ghat Rural Municipality-10 in Gorkha first climbed Mount Sagarmatha in 2018.

A total of 468 people, including 86 women and 382 men from 47 climbing groups, have received permission to climb Mount Sagarmatha this spring season.
