Kathmandu, May 12: Prime Minister K.P.Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, after several rounds of meetings, agreed to assign NC activist and economist Bishwa Poudel as the new governor of the Nepal Rastra Banak, which has remained vacant for more than one month.

Under the Bhagbanda (sharing posts) UML had appointed Hitendra Shakya as the executive chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority and now, from the Nepali Congress quota, Poudel is likely to be assigned as the governor of the NRB, the country’s central bank.

Poudel has already resigned from the governor recommendation committee.

Earlier, NC had named Dr Gunakar Bhatta, director of the NRB, to the post of the governor, however, acting governor Nimam Dhungana didn’t accept his resignation and also a court case has been registered against the government. Bhatta’s name was dropped due to technical reasons.

Reports state that some middlemen were active and the governor’s post was priced at billions of rupees. According to sources, broker Dipak Bhatt was active in assigning his man to the post of governor. Bhatta is eying on a license for digital currency.
