
Kathmandu, May 8: As of Baisakh 24 of the current fiscal year, the government is operating at a deficit of 200 billion rupees. The government has so far collected a total revenue of 928 billion rupees, while the expenditure has reached 1 trillion 125 billion rupees.
Due to higher expenses than revenue, the government has had to borrow to pay its employees. According to data as of the end of Chaitra, the government has already raised 291 billion rupees in internal loans. The income and expenditure details show that the government has spent the internal loans on paying its employees.
The government has so far taken a loan of 2 trillion 667 billion rupees, of which 1 trillion 365 billion rupees need to be paid to foreign lenders.
Although the government set a target to earn 1 trillion 419 billion rupees through revenue this year, it has only collected 63 percent of the target, amounting to just 900 billion rupees. The expenditure for this period, including employee management, has been 745 billion rupees. The report shows development expenses at 115 billion rupees and financial management at 264 billion rupees.
