Kathmandu, April 21: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba left for Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday afternoon for a medical check-up.

Deuba has assigned Purna Bahadur Khadka as the acting president of the party to look after the party President’s work during Deuba's absence.

Deuba’s spouse and Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba have also visited Thailand. Arju will participate in the 81st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, starting today (Monday) in Thailand.

Deuba is scheduled to spend a week in Bangkok. His personal secretary Bhanu Deuba and his son Jaybirsingh Deuba have also accompanied Deuba.

Nepali intellectuals using social networks have criticized Deuba and his spouse Arzu visiting foreign countries for medical check-ups instead of making efforts for capacity building of the local hospitals and developing high confidence of the local medical practitioners.
