Kathmandu, April 20: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is staging a demonstration in Kathmandu today demanding the restoration of the monarchy and the release of its arrested leaders, including senior vice chairman Rabindra Mishra and MP Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana. Security arrangements have been tightened after RPP decided to stage a demonstration in the prohibited area.

RPP’s Central Working Committee meeting held on Thursday, Baisakh 4 (April 17), decided to take the movement jointly with other forces demanding restoration of the institution of monarchy and decided to protest in the prohibited area today (April 20).

As a continuation of the movement, RPP has decided to organize sit-in meetings and protest programs in all districts on Baisakh 9 (April 22).

The party's senior vice-president Rabindra Mishra and general secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana were among those arrested during the demonstrations in the Tinkune area on March 28.

The "Joint People's Movement Committee" formed to restore the institution of monarchy is also going to participate in the RPP demonstration today.

Acting Coordinator Dr Jagman Gurung has informed in a statement that his group will participate in Sunday's RPP demonstration.

"The United People's Movement Committee will fully support the programs organized by all patriotic, nationalist parties, groups and campaigns, including the RPP, in favor of constitutional monarchy, Sanatan Hindu nation, abolition of federalism, end of corruption and good governance," he said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said that it has taken serious note of RPP’s decision to hold a demonstration in the prohibited area on Sunday.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry made it clear that any activity that encourages blatant violation of the constitution and the law and creates anarchy in society will not be tolerated. The ministry has warned that those involved in such activities will be actioned according to the law.

At the same time, the Ministry has also requested all not to engage in any chaotic, provocative and illegal activities that spread violence in the society.
