Kathmandu, April 19: The leaders of the Federation of Nepali Teachers held a midnight meeting with Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on Friday, however, they weren’t satisfied with the PM’s assurance.

After the meeting, the Federation decided to continue its agitation in Kathmandu on Saturday (today). The Federation has said that it will continue staging demonstrations in Kathmandu unless introduction of a new law on education.

For the past 19 days, the teachers have launched a Kathmandu-centric demonstration.

Federation’s Chairman Laxmikishor Subedi, Co-Chairman Nanumaya Parajuli, General Secretary Tulabahadur Thapa and Deputy General Secretary Madanraj Joshi attended the meeting called by PM Oli at the PM’s official residence in Baluatar.

After about two hours of talks, when PM Oli expressed his commitment to fulfilling the demands of the Federation, the teachers’ leaders said that they were unable to stop the agitation on small deals but wanted implementation of the past agreements.

The leaders in teachers’ agitation said that the movement would be stopped along with the introduction of the new education law.

The teachers want the issuance of an ordinance from the government, whereas, the government want to bring the said law from Parliament. The government, for this purpose, has called the Budget Session of the House starting from April 25.
