
Kathmandu, April 16: Pakistan’s Ambassador Abrar H Hashmi hosted a reception in Kathmandu on the occasion of its 85th National Day on Tuesday, April 15.
Vice President Dr. Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav was the Chief Guest, whereas, Ms. Indira Rana, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives; Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of the Unified Socialist Party and former PM of Nepal; Baburam Bhattarai, Chairman of Nepal Socialist Party and former PM of Nepal; Bishnu Rimal, Chief Advisor to PM KP Oli; Supreme Court Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla; and CP Mainali, former DPM were present on the occasion.
A good number of senior Nepalese political, civic and business leaders, Ambassadors, diplomats, the Pakistani community, journalists, and civil society representatives attended the event. A photo exhibition under the theme “A Glance at Pakistan” was also held showcasing the diversity of Pakistan.
In his remarks, Ambassador Hashmi underlined the historical importance of Pakistan Day -- Journey to liberation from colonial subjugation to forming republic of Pakistan. He paid tribute to Pakistan’s forefathers. He said Pakistan stands with the international community in fulfilling its international obligations.
Pakistan and Nepal have enjoyed cordial relations and developed strong bonds. He elaborated that Pakistan and Nepal share a unique tapestry from geography to civilizational linkages, from peaks of the Himalayas to rich heritage, and cultural similarities unite the two peoples together. He hoped that building on existing agreements, mechanisms and collaboration in education, health, defence, climate change, and disaster management would continue to bring synergies and closer ties in years ahead.
The Nepal Army band played tunes of national anthems at the reception, as well as a few Pakistani songs captivating the audience.
