The government of big two political parties have failed to appoint a new governor of Nepal Rastra Bank even 11 days after governor Maha Prasad Adhikary got retirement. Normally, the government used to appoint the NRB governor a month before the sitting governor retired, but this time it could not happen thanks to a bargain among Nepali Congress and UML to pick their man in the central bank.

With the delay in appointing the governor, disputes between the UML and NC spilled prompting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to hold a meeting with NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday.

In the meeting, Deuba reportedly threatened PM Oli that he could not bear pressure from within his party if the governor was not from his party. News reports have it that Shekhar Koirala and Gagan Thapa have been exerting pressure on Deuba not to agree to appoint UML man in NRB. As a result, Oli agreed to appoint the man recommended by NC to the key post of the central bank.

Likewise, the government has also failed to appoint new vice chancellor in the Tribhuvan University after Keshar Jung Baral tendered his resignation which was accepted on April 10.

Instead, Prime Minister and Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, K.P. Sharma Oli, has assigned the responsibility of Acting Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University to Professor Dr. Khadga KC, the current Rector of the university, for a maximum period of three months.

Dr. KC was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor on Tuesday in accordance with Clause 21 (b) of the Tribhuvan University Act, 1992, following a decision made by Chancellor Oli on April 13.

Dr. K.C. will serve in the interim role until a permanent appointment is made.

After being unable to appoint the new VC, PM Oli gave the responsibility of acting VC to KC.
