Kathmandu, April 11: Prime Minister and Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, K.P. Sharma Oli has approved the resignation tendered by Vice Chancellor Kesharjung Baral. Baral, on the allegation of PM Oli’s unnecessary intervention in the TU affairs, had tendered resignation on March 27.

Oli had kept pending Baral’s resignation, however, on April 10, he approved the resignation.

Now, the NC and UML-affiliated student unions are demanding the resignation of the Rector and Registrar also.

PM Oli has not been assigned the acting VC and the University has remained without the leadership.

Due to the massive politics and leaders’ wish to assign their own men as officials in the TU, the educational environment there has been destroyed.

To improve the educational environment in universities, the tradition of the prime minister becoming the chancellor should be ended and the political parties should end political intervention. Accordingly, the student unions should limit their activities to quality education only, say academicians.
