Kathmandu, April 11: The process of bringing goods from China directly to the Chobhaar Dry Port has begun. On Friday, for the first time, a Chinese container was brought to the Chobhar Dry Port through the Tatopani Pass.

Earlier, only goods that were cleared by the customs check posts in Tatopani and Rasuwa were brought to the dry port. The Chinese container arrived here for the first time after the Ministry of Finance opened a legal way to bring Chinese goods directly to Chobhar Port without customs approvals from the Chinese trade passes in accordance with Section 89 (f) of the Customs Act 2064.

The goods have been brought to Nepal for the first time by rail and road through a new shipping system launched from Eu City in China's Chahachang Province. The goods were brought to Sigatse from Eu by rail, about 250 km. From there, three containers of goods arrived at the dry port of Chobhar in Kathmandu on Friday, crossing the Tatopani trade pass in Sindhupalchowk by road.

China's Economic and Commercial Consul, Xie Yuyi, has expressed happiness over the historic achievement of goods arriving at the Chobhar Dry Port, saying that the first non-stop railway shipment from China's Chahchang to Nepal's dry port Kathmandu has been successfully launched. This historic moment not only marks a new era in cross-border trade between China and Nepal but also strengthens the foundation of economic and trade cooperation between China and Nepal.

It takes 45 to 60 days to arrive goods in Nepal by sea from the Eu, but just 20 to 30 days by road. By using rail and then road to Sigatse, the goods arrive in Nepal in one week.

This system will make business easier as well as reduce shipping costs. The doors of new opportunities will be opened to the traders and goods will be transported more safely in Nepal, say Nepali businessmen.
