We are on the eve of replacing the old calendar with a new one by welcoming the New Year 2082 BS. As we are entering to the New Year 2082 BS saying goodbye to the old one, we hope for a change in the country. The existing system has already failed in ensuring prosperity to the nation and the people, therefore, voices have been lauded in the streets for a change in the political system. We have experienced many systems and the nation has turned into a laboratory experimenting with different political modalities. We have already wasted our precious time. Now, we have to adopt a political system, which will ensure multiparty democracy giving space to all the groups including the patriotic force, and the institution of monarchy, by ending the politics of prohibition. We prefer the 1990 constitution empowered with the mechanism of curbing corruption, commission, ensuring good governance, ending the Bhagbanda politics and also ending the political intervention in the constitutional bodies, security organs, civil service, health and educational sectors. Moreover, we wish to scrap the federal structures and reduce the local bodies making the system sustainable with the nation’s revenue. The tax is important but excessive taxation will be counter-productive for a developing nation. As Nepal aims to upgrade from the LDC status to the developing country’s status, the economy should be self-reliant and sustainable.  The year 2082 will not be free form challenges as the global political course is also changing and we don’t know, what shape it will take. Nevertheless, we should have good homework to cope with the upcoming global challenges. Moreover, if the republican groups are wise enough and if they love the nation, a new agreement should be developed among all the political forces by addressing the voices from the streets. Otherwise, once again, the country may enter into a conflict and we cannot say about the fate of the present-day political leaders.

We wish the political leaders would think about the nation’s future and become ready to introduce a nation-friendly political system. Meanwhile, we wish for peace, progress and prosperity to all Nepalis at home and abroad.

Happy New Year, 2082!
