Kathmandu, April 8: The government should have named a new governor one month before the sitting governor's retirement. However, the government is unable to appoint a new governor even after Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari's retirement.
Due to the vested interests and Bhagbanda politics, the senior leaders have not been able to select the new governor. The committee constituted to recommend a capable governor has not been able to hold a meeting to recommend the names for the post of the governor.
Due to the differences between the senior leaders for appointing a new governor the appointment process has been delayed.
For the time being, the Ministry of Finance has appointed senior deputy governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Neelam Dhungana Timsina, as the acting governor.
In accordance with Section 27 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058 BS, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Bishnu Prasad Poudel has assigned the responsibility of acting governor to Dhungana.
Dhungana was appointed as the acting governor at a time when the Nepal Rastra Bank was left without a governor after Maha Prasad Adhikari completed his five-year term and left office on April 4.
