
Kathmandu, April 7: Senior journalist Bhairab Risal, 97, passed away Sunday evening while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
Rishal was admitted to the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwar for the treatment of lung and heart-related problems.
Born on Saun 29, 1985 BS, in Tithali, Bhaktapur, Risal had donated his body to the Patan Hospital, therefore, his body will be handed over to the Hospital, according to his younger brother and senior journalist Puru Risal.
The late Rishal, who received various awards on human rights, Jagadamba Shree and environmental protection, was the host of the radio series 'Uhile Bajeka Palama' for a long time on Radio Sagarmatha.
Risal, who had a leftist ideology, was a candidate from Bhaktapur for the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party in the 2048 BS general election.
The late Risal had also served as the chief correspondent in the National News Agency RSS. Risal worked in the statistics department before joining the RSS.
Risal was deployed to the Kalapani area, currently one-sidedly occupied by India to take a population census and conducted fild visit in the Kalapani-Limpiyuadhura area in Darchula district. He was one of the living evidence that the territory belonged to Nepal.
Risal has published books including 'Sadhulai Suli' (Jail Diary), 'Lognesvashni', 'Some Friends Letters' and 'Bhairav Dai'. He has been survived by a wife, two sons and two daughters.
