Kathmandu, April 6: The Nepal Teachers' Federation, which has been on a Kathmandu-centric agitation for the last five days, has announced an indefinite period of educational strike from Monday, April 7.

In a statement issued by Federation President Laxmikishore Subedi and General Secretary Tulabahadur Thapa, teachers and employees across the country have been urged to launch the educational strike by halting all work, including the publication of results.

The Federation, which has been in the movement with various demands, has been in the street movement in the capital Kathmandu since April 2.

The educational strike has been announced to put pressure on the government to implement the Quality School Education, Student and Teacher/Employee Friendly School Education Act.

The Nepal Teachers' Federation has been ignoring the government’s call for talks.

Even in the year 2080, the teachers who had launched in the capital had stopped the movement after an agreement with the government.

However, under the leadership of the Federation, teachers and employees of community schools across the country have been agitating in the Baneshwor-Maitighar area since April 2.

"Now we urge all the teaching staff to compulsorily come to participate in the educational movement in Kathmandu by closing all the schools across the country," the statement said, "During this period, students, parents, school management committees and all educational stakeholders are urged not to engage in any work such as answer sheet testing, publication of results, training seminars, educational tours and express solidarity with this movement."
