Kathmandu, April 5: Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a one-on-one meeting in Bangkok after concluding the BIMSTEC Summit.
After the meeting, Modi wrote on “X” in Nepali language that the meeting was fruitful.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders discussed strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as development partnership, energy, connectivity, and people-to-people relations.
MEA in a brief statement stated that the two leaders reviewed the unique and close relationship between India and Nepal. “They expressed satisfaction at the progress in enhancing physical and digital connectivity, people-to-people linkages, and in the domain of energy. They agreed to continue working towards further deepening the multifaceted partnership between our two countries and peoples,” it is stated.
PM Oli has expressed his satisfaction after the one-on-one meeting with his Indian counterpart.
Prior to PM Oli’s departure to Bangkok from Nepal, there was no formal schedule on the meeting between the two leaders.
Later, the meeting was fixed just for 20 minutes on Friday afternoon at the hotel PM Modi was staying. The meeting was set at the delegation level –six members from each team.
However, after concluding the delegation-level meeting, the two leaders agreed to hold a one-on-one meeting, which is considered to be a breakthrough in ongoing cold relations between Oli and Modi.
Oli has not received an invitation to pay a visit to India since he assumed office.
During the meeting, Oli extended an invitation to his Indian counterpart Modi to attend the Sagarmatha Dilauge being held in Nepal.
