Kathmandu, April 4: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is in Bangkok to participate in the 6th Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), is scheduled to hold a sideline meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this afternoon.

Reports state that the meeting is being organized at the special request of Nepali Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba.

There will be no one-on-one meeting but other officials from both the countries will be present.

However, the Nepali side expects that the meeting between the two prime ministers would help improve bilateral relations between the two countries, Nepal and India.

To recall, even after nine months in office, Oli didn’t get an invitation to pay a formal visit to India.

Meanwhile, PM Oli held a meeting with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in Bangkok on Thursday.

After concluding his official visit to Thailand, Prime Minister Oli is holding sideline meetings and other meetings with the heads of state and government of the member countries who are attending the BIMSTEC Summit.

PM Oli's secretariat said that various issues of bilateral relations and mutual interest were discussed during the meeting with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister. Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, and Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Bahadur Rai, among others, participated in the meeting.
