Kathmandu, April 3: This is the first official visit of a prime minister of Nepal, it has been highlighted by the government even before the visit of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli. During his first official visit, our PM had the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn on Wednesday, April 2. This is an honor extended by the Thai government for the visiting Nepali PM, who is in Thailand to attend the sixth BIMSTEC Summit.
We are aware that the Thai people have high regard for their king. Even criticizing the king would be subjected to punishment. When the Nepali PM visits such a country and pays a courtesy call on the Thai King, the news report appears on the sixth page in single column in The Rising Nepal, the government mouthpiece. Neither there are any related photographs nor any reports about the issues discussed between the Thai King and Nepali PM, during the meeting in the report.
The report, despatched by RSS and published by The Rising Nepal published on April 3, both the government organs, have attempted to downplay, possibly under the instruction of the officials in the PM’s entourage team.
However, Prime Minister Oli’s foreign relations advisor and other officials, seem naive about the Nepal-Thailand diplomatic relations highly maintained by the kings of Nepal and the Thai monarchs in the past.
