Kathmandu, April 4: C.P. Mainali, General Secretary of the Marxist Leninist Party (ML), in a press statement issued on March 30, has demanded an independent judiciary enquiry on the Tinkune violence on March 28.
Mainali has stated that the Tinkune violence was a planned conspiracy hatched by the government to defame the patriotic force.
"The pro-king nationalist groups had organized a peaceful mass assembly at the venue provided by the government at Tinkune. After the government started firing tear gas without any reason organizing a peaceful assembly was disrupted", Mainali has stated.  
"The cause of the unexpected clashes and acts of vandalism by the participants of the event seems to be the action of the police, who are in charge of the public's physical security, sitting on the top floor of a private house near the stage and firing several tear gas cells agitating participants at the assembly."
"On the other hand, when arson and looting took place in the Bhatbhateni Super Market, the security personnel did not come to the scene, which automatically shows how helpful the government was in reducing the incidents."

"The irresponsibility on the part of the government has also been exposed by various statements made in the public regarding the firing aimed at killing the agitators and the burning of the Avenues journalist as reported in the news."

"From the study of the facts and the media, and from the efforts of all the people in power to blame the displaced king and nationalist leaders who were active in the program for these undesirable events and to punish them harshly, it appears that the government was planning to foil the peaceful demonstrations and public meetings of the political party nationalists by deploying the police and discrediting their political campaign. This is utterly reprehensible."
"In addition to the above reasons, there have been some serious shortcomings on the part of the nationalist operators during this movement, and there are grounds on which it cannot be ruled out that there was an infiltration of external elements."

"We strongly demand that a "High-Level Citizen Scrutiny Commission" be constituted immediately to conduct an impartial judicial inquiry into the incidents of Tinkune, Jadibuti and Bhatbhateni Super Markets on March 28."

"We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of Avenues Television's journalist Suresh Rajak and Kirtapur's driver Savin Maharjan, who were killed during the planned crackdown by the current government against public demonstration and public meeting. We call on the government to provide immediate relief to the families of the victims and provide free treatment to all the injured persons."

"All innocent political activists arrested during the crackdown should be released immediately. At the same time, the gimmick of defaming the deposed King Gyanendra Shah by blaming him for the undesirable acts of the mob that was provoked by the government repression on March 28 should be put to an end immediately."

"We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the victims of vandalism and looting, the operators of media houses and damaged offices, who were angered by the misrule of the parliamentarian ruling party, provoked by government repression, and we demand that the government make appropriate arrangements for their compensation."

"The nationalist parties and groups in favor of the state institutions need to take a serious look at their current political campaign and the events of March 28 on a material basis."

"We strongly call upon all concerned to move effectively towards a "total revolution" against the anomalies and distortions created in society by the parliamentary ruling groups, which have become the bearers of the anomalies and distortions of the republican mask, and to force them to come to the right path by exposing their work, so that patriots of all stripes can come together as an alternative force on the basis of a common program."
