President Ramchandra Paudel has prorogued the winter sessions of both Houses of the Federal Parliament, effective from Tuesday midnight.

He prorogued the House session on a recommendation of the Council of Ministers, in accordance with clause (2) of Article 93 of the Constitution of Nepal, according to press statement issued by Sailaja Regmi Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Office of the President, on Tuesday.

Earlier, a Cabinet meeting held on March 31 decided to recommend President Paudel for proroguing the ongoing session of both the Houses of the Federal Parliament from Tuesday midnight (April 1).

Meanwhile, on the last day of its session on Tuesday, the House of Representatives meeting passed a condolence motion unanimously on the demise of lawmaker Deepak Bohora. Bohora, a senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), died on Tuesday morning while receiving treatment in Kathmandu. He was 74.

The winter session of the House of Representatives lasted for 118 hours and 21 minutes over the course of 61 days. During this session, five ordinances and five bills were passed. Two direct question – and – answer sessions with the Prime Minister took place during the session. And many bills were approved for discussion but none of them were passed except for the five replacement bills.
