Kathmandu was ranked the most polluted city in the world on Monday, according to the air quality monitoring website IQAir.
The city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 205, an unhealthy level, placing it ahead of Wuhan, China, in second place and Chiang Mai, Thailand, in third. Kolkata, India, ranked fourth with an AQI of 152.
On Monday, the AQI in Lalitpur reached 205, categorised as a "very unhealthy" level. Other areas also recorded high pollution levels, with Boudhha Chowk at 197, Suryabinayak at 178, Balkhu at 162, Gokarneshwar at 180 and Tukhcha Nala at 182.
