Kathmandu, April 1: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is leaving for Bangkok today on an official visit to attend the 6th Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

A bilateral meeting with PM Oli’s Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, was expected during the BIMSTEC Summit, however, this meeting has not been fixed yet.

This is the first-ever official visit to Thailand by a Nepali Prime Minister at the friendly invitation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

The visit team led by Prime Minister Oli will leave for Bangkok on Thai Airlines at 13: 30 this afternoon. The Prime Minister's Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have completed all necessary preparations for the visit.

The Prime Minister will begin his official visit to Thailand on Wednesday, April 2. During the visit, bilateral talks will be held at the Prime Minister's level and six MoUs will be signed between the two and the non-governmental sector in the field of tourism culture. After the bilateral talks, Prime Minister Oli will attend a joint press briefing with Thai PM Shinawatra. PM Oli is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Thai King.

On his way to Thailand, Prime Minister Oli will meet and discuss with the eminent businessmen of Thailand and will address a program organized at the Asian Institute of Technology. PM Oli will attend a formal dinner to be hosted for the leaders of the BIMSTEC Summit.

He is scheduled to attend and address the BIMSTEC Summit on Thursday, April 3. PM Oli plans to hold bilateral talks with the leaders of other countries on the sideline of the Summit, however, it has not been disclosed the list of the leaders he is going to meet.

Oli will attend the signing ceremony of the Maritime Transport Cooperation Agreement.

He will attend a program at the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok.

PM Oli’s wife, Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor to the PM Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Development Advisor Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada, Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal, Eknarayan Aryal, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai, personal physician to the PM Dr Divya Singh Shah, Principal Private Secretary to the PM, Rajesh Bajracharya, security personnel and media persons are among the 21 members of the delegation visiting Thailand.

The Prime Minister will return home on April Saturday, April 5.
