Kathmandu, March 29: The Kathmandu District Administration Office has lifted a curfew imposed around the Tinkune area from 7 am today.

The District Office had imposed a curfew around the Tinkune area from Friday afternoon after the demonstration organized for the restoration of monarchy turned violent and went out of control.

One activist, Sabin Maharjan, died in the Police firing, whereas, one media person working for the Avenues TV, Suresh Rajak, died after a house was set ablaze.

According to different reports that appeared on social networks, the police deployed at the mass assembly had fired tear gas at the pavilion and also fired tear gas from the rooftop of the house which was set ablaze by the agitators later. They blamed the police’s hands in the firing.

Bhaskar Rajkarnikar, chairman of Avenues TV, had phoned different government and security officials to inform them that a journalist, Rajak, belonging to his TV, was stuck inside the gutted house and to request the officials to save his life. But there was no response and finally the journalist died, Rajkarnikar said.

"It is unfortunate that to what extent the officials were exhibiting an irresponsible act," Rajkarnikar expressed his reaction.

Some observers have even suspected that the government had planned to agitate the demonstrators to defame the organizers.
