The locals of Olangchungola, a Nepal-China bordering village in Taplejung, far-East Nepal, have demanded the construction of a dry port to promote Nepal-China trade. Faktanglung Municipality-7 Chairman Chhetan Lama has sent a letter to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, urging it to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of the dry port.
The Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee on Tuesday sent a letter to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to include the project in the policy and program of the fiscal year 2082/83 to build a dry port in the Mawatar area of Olangchungola.
In the letter sent by the executive director of the Committee, Ashish Gajurel, it has been mentioned that the development of structures such as dry ports and integrated checkpoints is necessary to promote the country's economic activities while developing trade infrastructure. The committee concluded that the road connecting China's Tibet Autonomous Region through Olangchungola has already been built and the region can be developed as a trade center as it is the shortest road as a north-south trade route.
The committee also urged the government to include the construction of a dry port in Olangchungola in its policy and program for the coming year, as well as allocate budget for it.
