Of the three major parties which boast about ushering in a secular republic system in the country, the ruling CPN (UML) looks more scared by the proposed movement of pro-royalist groups.
Although Maoist Centre chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal severely criticised the activities of the former king even by halting the party's awareness campaign, the UML has planned to launch an awareness movement nationwide to counter the movements being launched for reinstating the Hindu Kingdom.
However, the Nepali Congress has officially decided that there was no need to launch any programme against the former king's activities. But the UML looks ahead of the two parties in countering the pro-royalists movement. Even on Monday, the UML mobilised its cadres in Kathmandu. When rumours that the government was detaining the former king were rife, the UML cadres were seen standing in groups or patrolling the inner areas of the capital city.
Although the UML leads the government, it has also prepared to launched demonstrations for federal republic system and against the pro-Hindu Kingdom groups.
