Kathmandu, March 25: Just a few months ahead of the completion of his tenure as the managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, the government, on Monday sacked Kulman Ghising and appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya to replace him.

The Cabinet meeting on Monday evening decided to remove Ghising. The government, to sack him, had sought explanations for many times. For several months, there was a tussle between Ghishing and Water Resources Minister Deepak Khadka. Prime Minister K.P. Oli had also supported Minister Khadka’s attempts to oust Ghising.

The government could not wait a few months before Ghising completing his tenure and ousted him, which has been widely criticized by political leaders in opposition and also from the ruling Nepali Congress party.

Maoist Center’s Chairman and former PM Pushpakamal Dahal has condemned the government's decision.

Likewise, RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden has remarked on the government decision as a “regressive” move.

Nepali Congress general secretaries Bishwo Prakash Sharma and Gagan Thapa also expressed the view that the decision to oust Ghising was wrong.

Ghising may knock on the court’s door against the government’s decision.

Shakya is closed to PM Oli.
